Flexeserve – The Ripple Effect!

Date Written: 03/04/2023

Date Published: 17/04/2023

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Flexeserve, part of Alan Nuttall Partnership Ltd. Flexeserve hosted ‘The Flourish Project’ training at the end of March where teachers, teaching assistants and family support staff attended a two day training event. These staff were from four local schools: Hinckley Parks, Richmond Primary, Heath Lane Academy and St Paul’s Primary school. Through this partnership and donation, these schools have been trained, resourced and will continue to be supported in deploying ‘The Flourish Project’ with 160 children within their school communities.

Three teaching assistants from St Paul’s Primary School had this to say about the training:

“It was the most fantastic opportunity that we have been given. We know the children will benefit so much! It was empowering, emotive and repairing all at the same time. We are buzzing! It was an amazing two days training – the best we have had.” – AKA The Flourish Girls

Hannah Williams (CEO) and Anthony Stubbs (Brand Voice Group Representative for Flexeserve) are on the left-hand side.  Delegates engaged in a practical activity on the right-hand side.

Lynsey Judge-Porter from Hinckley Parks had this to say:

‘Course facilitators were absolutely amazing, welcoming and very knowledgeable, and the venue and lunch were absolutely brilliant.’.

Over the course of the two day training, the trainers encourage delegates to be ‘kind’ by ‘calling out the gold’ that they see in each other. ‘Gold calling’ is one of the project’s golden threads. What our trainers witnessed at the end of the second day was truly inspiring; they saw the delegates ‘gold calling’ with words of kindness to the host Flexeserve.  The delegates wrote a certificate of ‘AWESOMENESS’ saying how much they had been treated like “Kings and Queens”.

All delegates representing the four schools along with Proton Foundation staff.

Hannah Williams, CEO shares her thoughts on the partnership.

‘What I love about partnership is it’s about adding value to one another. When you find a partner with similar values of excellence, being generous, having passion for what they are about, that partnership can begin a ripple effect. Not only does it affect the now, but can impact the future, and in this case impact our future generation of children and young people. Just like we have witnessed with the culture of generosity and hospitality of Flexeserve – the effect of this being the delegates ‘calling out the gold’ to what they had experienced. Imagine if
we can all be like this, seeing the gold in others and calling it out
what an amazing community we would all belong to!’

Anthony Stubbs, HSEQ Manager and an elected member of the Brand Voice Group for Flexeserve.

‘We were blown away when we received a certificate of ‘AWESOMENESS’ from the delegates saying how much they had been treated like “Kings and Queens”. It is the very least we can do for such a worthy charity that is making a difference. By supporting a local charity, we here at Flexeserve hope we can help improve the lives of those in need but also strengthen the bonds of our community. We hope, with our support, the Proton Foundation‘s Flourish Project can make a significant difference in the lives of young people, and contribute to the betterment of society as a whole. As Coretta Scott King quotes, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.’

Llandaff Diocese Pilot Schools

We’re pleased to announce the growth of our partnership with the Llandaff Diocese. We had initially agreed to partner with the Llandaff Diocese for the 22/23 academic year, training 20 facilitators within the diocese. However, once word of the Flourish Project spread within the Diocese, some The Church of Wales schools were keen to deliver the project within their school community. Therefore, we have expanded our partnership to add six pilot schools with two facilitators at each school fully trained to deliver the Flourish Project.

We expect these six pilot schools to deliver the Flourish Project with over 200 children and young people within the first year. Llandaff have opted to sign the six pilot schools to deliver the Flourish Project for two years, increasing the expected reach to well over 400 children and young people across two years.

One of our trained Facilitators Coral Lewis had this to say about the two days of training,

‘Such an amazing course, everybody was so welcoming and friendly. I loved how we all learnt about ourselves while planning and acting out the sessions. The steps are really easy so you can add your own flavour and be free with your sessions. I will ‘magpie’ ideas from the lessons today. I’ve learnt a lot that can help me to help others. 5 stars.’

Flourish Project Manager Philip Mann shares his thoughts on the pilot scheme.

‘We’re excited to welcome on board another six schools to deliver the Flourish Project. We know that pilot schemes like this one, are key for communities to see and experience first hand the impact the Flourish Project can have. I’m delighted that Llandaff Diocese have opted for the pilot scheme to be a two year commitment. This ensures, each of the schools the best opportunity to use the Flourish Project to its fullest and see children and young people’s mental and emotional well being improve and their self esteem and general levels of happiness increase.

It was a pleasure to train all twelve facilitators and we look forward to hearing all the good news stories and the impact the Flourish Project has had.’

Rebecca Morteo, Head of Education for Llandaff Diocese adds.

“As a diocese, we prioritise supporting wellbeing and mental health in our schools. When we heard about Flourish, we were keen to explore how a programme developed from Christian values could support wellbeing in our schools. The training has been a huge success with positive feedback from all staff. As we start to introduce Flourish through a two-year pilot across our schools, we have seen high levels of engagement and enthusiasm from staff, children and parents. We are looking forward to watching the impact and development of flourish in our pilot schools over the next two years.’

The Impact We Want To See

The Impact We Want To See!

2022 was filled with some inspiring stories of the impact that the Flourish Project made in the lives of children, teachers, parents and communities.

“Children have absolutely loved every session. I have really noticed confidence and how they carry themselves at school and how they communicate with each other. A lot of the activities have also been taken to school assemblies. Children are using all the flourish vocabulary they have picked up from the sessions in normal classes. It has been fantastic. I can see the improvement and see that the kids can see it too. Celebration is done at the school assembly and we have invited their parents. The cards of ‘Awesomeness’ have spread like absolute wildfire, and we even got the children to do a session for the governors. We would want every child in the year to go through the project.” – Kris Wharton, Deputy Head at Cwmffrwdoer Primary School

Flourish Project

For 2023 we have big goals we would like to achieve, to train more schools and churches, influence more lives through developing key partnerships, and help local communities Flourish and to see this impact spread across thousands of lives.
Thank you for all your continuous support in 2022!
We have already trained 11 schools in 2023, and are excited to see what the rest of the year will bring!

Your friends,

Hannah Williams and The Proton Foundation Team❤️

How To Build (and Keep) Good Habits That Will Last The Rest Of The Year

How To Build (and Keep) Good Habits

We are creatures of habits. It can be hard to start and stick with something that may be out of the norm to us or out of our comfort zone.

Think about the healthy habits you would like to incorporate into your daily routine. Drinking enough water throughout the day, exercising daily, learning something new, and spending time in nature, to name a few examples.

Use these top tips below instead of throwing in the towel. We want to help you build, and keep, good habits that will last the rest of the year, and hopefully, a lifetime!

Create A Plan

Have you ever heard the saying “failure to plan, is a plan to fail?”

This is especially true when it comes to building long-lasting habits. Before diving straight in, spend some time defining your goals and the habits you’d like to create. Make sure to write your goals down. This can help you digest them and make them ‘more official’.

The longer you go without performing the healthy habit, the harder it gets to keep up with it. Get planning!

Start Small

Like many things, if you try to go from zero to a thousand in a short period of time, you more than likely won’t get the results you want. You may also give up sooner that you should.

Think about the smaller actions you can do that will help you reach your goal. Rather than trying to do something absolutely amazing from the start, think about the smaller habits you can do and they will improve along the way.

Your willpower and motivation will also increase, making it much easier to stick to your new habit long-term.

Be Consistent

This doesn’t mean being perfect. Consistency is so important when it comes to taking on something new into your life and routine. When you repeat the same habit over a period of time, it becomes automatic and you don’t even need to think about it.

Focus on building the identity of someone who never missed a habit twice!

Consistency > Perfection.

Talk Positively To Yourself

Talk to yourself like you would talk to someone you love. Right?

Positive self-talk can help build your confidence and self-esteem, feel more in control of the events in your life, and achieve your goals.

If for some reason, something comes up and you weren’t able to continue with your new habit, that’s okay! But it’s important to bounce back from the setback you experienced. Occasionally forgetting to do a habit won’t throw you off course, as long as you pick right back up the next day!

At the Flourish Project, we love to set our young people a challenge, to speak a phrase of affirmation over themselves. We want to encourage you to try and do so every time you brush your teeth, so you have a self-esteem boost.

Stick to this habit and you’ll notice a big difference in your confidence each day!

Partnership with Llandaff Diocese

Date Published: 15th September 2022

Proton Foundation announces partnership with Llandaff Diocese.

We are thrilled to announce that the Proton Foundation has agreed to partner with Young Faith Matters, a funded element of the Diocese of Llandaff.
Our initial partnership is for 12 months with the hope of increasing the partnership by at least a further year.

Our partnership involves training 20 people from the Diocese of Llandaff to deliver the Flourish Project in schools and churches across the Diocese. The Flourish Project will also be a recommended resource to all 25 church schools from within this Diocese.

Hannah Williams, CEO of the Proton Foundation, had this to say: “We are excited by the synergy of this partnership and are looking forward to the young people’s lives that will be encouraged, enabled and empowered. Our mission is to create cultures of impact and long lasting change. We understand the importance of partnering together, as ‘together’ we can make a significant difference, bringing hope and restoration.”

Paul Booth, Director of Mission for the Diocese of Llandaff explains the importance of this partnership, “As a Diocese we have seen the potential of this programme to impact young lives. The capacity for schools to address the increasing challenge of young people’s mental health and well-being issues is stretched and this offers us the chance to support schools with an excellent course which has demonstrable impact.”

Some of the newly trained Flourish Project facilitators had this to say after completing the two day training course delivered by Proton Foundation Trustee Jay Williams, CEO Hannah Williams and Flourish Project Manager Phil Mann.

“Lovely people & great training. I felt at ease throughout the training and feel very equipped to deliver the project in my local context.” – Mel Saunders

“This was an incredibly insightful, well considered and powerful programme that touched me deeply. I am confident that it will have a positive impact on the young people I will engage with.” – Reverend Charlotte Rushton

“Thoroughly enjoyed the training and feel ready to approach schools!” – Samuel Robinson

“This training is inspirational, it equipped us in all aspects of the Flourish programme. It was fun and interactive.” – Reverend Angela Cooper

Benefact Trust ‘Brighter Lives’ Grant

Benefact Trust Logo

17th August 2022

PRESS RELEASE

We have been awarded the Brighter Lives Grant!

We are thrilled to have been awarded the Brighter Lives grant from Benefact Trust.

We exist to be a resource inspiring community transformation! To date, we have seen over 2000 young
people complete the Flourish Project, over 500 complete Flourish Online, over 55 Champions support the Flourish Project and 150 facilitators trained in delivering the Flourish Project.

‘We are living in times where young people are struggling in silence, many with issues that affect their mental and emotional wellbeing. We all need to work towards finding long-term preventative solutions that can be easily integrated into school cultures at an early age, this will help combat the ever-growing issue around mental ill health.

I believe The Flourish Project is one solution that can help young people start to form healthy habits and positive self-talk, which in turn builds resilience. The impact that this project has seen in improving mental wellbeing & self-esteem is significant and their research over the last few years has demonstrated that this could be a game-changer.’

– Professor Jonathan Warren (previous CEO of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust).

This grant will help us to partner with new churches and Christian organisations to achieve our goal of impacting young people, to truly change their lives and help improve their mental and emotional well-being.

Brighter days are ahead!
