The Flourish Project Update – April 2020

We believe for ā€œBIG things to take placeā€ – and are excited to be on a journey to see transformation happen in South Wales improving children’s emotional and mental wellbeing.

It was great to be in South Wales at the end of February where we got to share the vision for the project, which is to see ā€œ100,000 children’s lives impacted in a positive way over the next 10 yearsā€.

At the Vision morning, we were really encouraged to meet representatives from Social Services, the local Foodbank, youth workers, children’s workers, church leaders and volunteers, who all came along to hear how they can partner with us to see this vision rolled out across the whole of South Wales.

During the next eight months, we are going to be working intensively alongside Elevate Church to see the Flourish project implemented and rolled out – initially into ten schools.

Forty facilitators will be trained – including teaching assistants, teachers, children’s and youth workers, grandparents, parents, local community volunteers and charity workers. Following the training, the impact and difference made to children, young people and their families are going to be huge.

We are excited that throughout 2020 we will also be training sixty Champions in this region! A Champion is someone who can come alongside a child/young person, and be that person’s Champion through their actions and life-giving words.

Flourish Project Heads International

We are excited to announce that we are rolling out the Flourish project in South Wales, working alongside churches and Rugby Clubs to see hundreds, if not thousands, of children and young people’s lives changed for the better.

Throughout 2020 a series of training days will be run to equip parents, sports coaches, youth workers, children’s workers, teachers, teaching assistants and volunteers to go into their local communities where they live and work, standing in the gap and helping ā€˜equip children to flourish into everything they have been created to be’.

We are passionate about inspiring people to become Champions and Facilitators who can be ā€˜Beacons’ in their local communities, leading to children, young people and adults realising their full potential and lives being transformed in amazing ways!

We would love to invite you along for the journey… you can help us change lives. If your heart or wallet is feeling stirred, take action.

The Flourish Project in 2019

It has been an amazing year for the Flourish Project. We have had the privilege to work alongside 322 young people; this figure has doubled from last year. Our hope is that we will continue to impact child after child after child. Our vision is to see 100,000 lives changed over the next 10 years. We want to plant seeds in children and young people that will stay with them into their adulthood, where they will be able to pinpoint that moment when they believed in who they have been created to be.

ā€œOver this year there have been many highlights, however, this is one of the highlights that has stayed with me. I was working with a group of 15-year-old boys who had been expelled from a number of different schools. There was one boy whose family situation was not good. He struggled with sensory overload and would often shout out offensive words in the middle of a session. He never gave me eye contact and would constantly put his head on the table with his hood up to disengage from the activities. However, it came to the last session where we get to give out certificates and just for a couple of minutes I got to speak directly into his eyes (which was a big deal), he actually stayed focused for that moment and absorbed the life-giving words, that I was speaking over him.

This small exchange of a spoken word was not just about the words being spoken, but it was about the moment of human connectedness. At that moment there was a movement an exchange that took place and that was huge.ā€

We are looking forward to what 2020 will bring as we partner with more schools and see more transformation in the lives of young people.
